Louisville, KY — PharMerica Corporation, a renowned healthcare organization, has disclosed a massive data breach affecting 5,815,591 individuals. The breach, attributed to an external hacking incident, occurred on March 12 and 13, 2023, and was discovered on March 21, 2023.

PharMerica Corporation is based in Louisville, Kentucky, and provides pharmacy services across the country. The breach compromised highly sensitive personal information, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medications, and health insurance information.

According to Michael Waters, a shareholder of PharMerica and an attorney at Polsinelli PC who communicated the breach to the Maine Attorney General, the healthcare provider became aware of suspicious activities on its computer network on March 14, 2023. The investigation revealed that an unknown third party had gained unauthorized access to PharMerica’s computer systems. In a notification letter, PharMerica stated that it “values and respects the privacy of your information” and deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this incident.
